The MDC cars most definitely had plastic walkways that were not see thru and the longer ones liked to sag in the center. IDK if Athearn changed any of this. The MTL ones have open holes but I'm not positive they are not plastic.

I should have looked before posting. The latest Athearn release had screws for bolster pins and etched medal walkways.  MT used architectural laser-board? for their walkways. Earlier Athearn?/MDC plastic walkway and bolster pins. Ditto for the Con Cor Husky Stacks.

I'm wondering if you are confusing the Z scale model with the N. Because I'm fairly certain the Z scale is truck mounted.
