One thing I've done many times is print a hi res image in scale on matte photo paper, gently peel the backing away from the back of the image, and glue it in place to the sign. no relief but the image looks pretty realistic as in the drumhead on my Polar Express:
Also another way to do this is to print the sign in black resin, paint it white and scrape away the high points using a sharp knife:
