Logic was probably that anyone that needed a UP one already bought the Bachmann model. But when it comes to SP there is a fairly healthy market of people that buy everything espee even overseas.

I am sure UP will be in the next run. I can’t imagine they would skip it.

I'll probably spring for an N&W one (S4) when they get around to it. N&W had 35 from NKP, and 3 from WAB for a total of 38. The last of them were retired in late 1976.

I never saw a switcher in Williamson (WV) - usually GP9s & RS11s did that job up through the mid 70s, but I think I would buy one anyway.

Huh. UP omitted from the S-4 list. I just checked an all-time S-4 roster, and with 45 they were in the top five for quantity. Atlas probably skipped UP due to Bachmann's, which in all honesty is neither a bad model nor bad runner, but it would nice if I could get one in a different number. They duplicated Bachmann in doing SP tiger stripe, so where's the love, huh?   

Gotta save some popular names for the second run.  New Haven is missing as well.

Have any changes been made to the trucks/gears to prevent gear cracking? My S2s were pretty sweet until the gears cracked, now they are basically paperweights and are in need of a fix. Since I know Atlas was aware of the problem, I would be greatly dissapointed if they just went ahead and produced more without addressing the issue

I'm guessing it's because the S4 just requires a truck swap. Wouldn't the S6 require a new hood?

S4 also needs a new cab

S2 - cab window corners are square

Atlas has already been down the S2/S4 path in HO, so I am guessing that they already know all of this.

Atlas has in the past shied away from producing engines Bachmann previous released despite horrible Bachmann quality control on diesels. The Atlas Dash 8 40C and CW was a long time coming. Atlas told me once they skipped a 40-2 given Bachmann released their pathetic Spectrum version in the early 90s.

I'll never understand a fear of Bachmann, unless you actually buy one of their diesels.

Oh well, my wallet remains Atlas-proof.

It will be interesting to see if the S4 uses the same decoder as the S2 or if its been redesigned for Loksound V5. The description doesn't say one way or the other. It would be nice if that small decoder was available separately.

The description says "2 cab variations - riveted or welded"

Hopefully the welded cab will have sealed windows, but I'm doubtful.

Ah! That's why no UP (yet) - UP's were welded. I haven't checked each and every road offered in the first S-4 run, but after a quick look at a handful of 1:1 photos, I'll wager that they're all riveted cabs.
