If you go to the ESU LokSound website and listen to the sound file samples of both the GEVO and the Tier-4, there's a distinct difference in the prime mover sounds - the T4 sounds over-driven and distorted to my ear, where the GEVO sounds great. Before modifying the speaker enclosure, I decided to load the GEVO sound file into the ScaleTrains T4 to see how it sounded. I thought the difference was night-and-day! I think the biggest issue is the sound file itself. It seems like the recording itself was over-driven - like the gain level wasn't set properly, which causes what sounds like distortion to me. That the GEVO file sounds so good without changing any of the hardware seems to confirm this.
Would anyone else want to try this and compare results?
