Atlas N Scale 1973 Ford F-100s Have Arrived

We have one (and had it all along), but it is really lame. 

I wish we had the emoticons from the A-board. Those were very nice (but not over the top).

I still say there is something odd about the nose/grille proportions on the model (besides the headlights which look too small to me).  A dark wash in the grille will help, but I don't know if that is all that's needed.

The photo you included is a 1976 model.  The grille on the Atlas model does not have enough horizontal "cross members" for the 1973-75 models as shown on my 1974 F-250 pictured below.



Needless to say, this one has not been out on the road for a while.

I'm not a truck expert - I just found a photo of a truck which has the same grille arrangement as the model. So it looks like they modeled a 1976 truck?  Even so, it still looks off.

No, the Atlas model isn't a '76.  Notice that the '76 grille has separate "boxes" for the headlights, while the '73 and Atlas grilles have the horizontal bars going all the way to the headlights.  It looks to me like Atlas modeled the top and bottom grille bars as one piece with the surrounding frame, which would account for the missing bars.  But yes, the headlights are too small, as they should be the full height of the grill opening.

But I'll still buy them, when Chuck gets them.  I doubt that most viewers today will notice the difference, if they have even seen a '73 Ford pickup.

So Atlas model is a mongrel that seems to be closest to the '76 truck. At least going by the center section of the grille. Atlas molded grille top, bottom, and bumper as a single piece.

And as Pete suggested, the Atlas model could possibly used for a 1973-76 Ford F-Series pickup, especially with a few modifications.
