Personally, I will wait on FVM to produce more. Going into competition against FVM, given current circumstances, does not seem like the right thing to do, to me. But I will own up to the fact that I am just starting on a new layout, and freight car wheel replacements are fairly far down the list of priorities- and there is obviously some pent up demand for .540 replacements.
If a group determines they want to go ahead, do not forget to factor in import duties, and that you may need to form an import company to deal with the paperwork. No doubt many of you have more experience than I do with bringing in lots of 100,000 items, worth thousands of dollars, or even 10s of thousands, from China, but I am inclined to think that the US government will judge that as a commercial venture, and the import duties and paperwork will be substantially greater than what you encounter ordering a couple buildings from a Chinese supplier on ebay. And whoever takes delivery may be required by their state to charge sales tax (or at least have a tax number, and report).
