I use the Kato 11-212 LED light kit in all my Kato passenger trains and there is no issue with DCC. They also have another advantage, they do not flicker.

How did you do that?

I have them in my Broadway Limited, and they flicker like lightning during a thunderstorm. Very disappointing.  :(

Did you solder the lighting kit to the copper strips?

Regarding the tint of the light: You could try to exchange the silvery reflecting material that goes behind the clear plastic for golden reflecting material.

Does Kodak still make Wratten filters? That could be another way to change the tint of the light.

Ngineer:  If you keep the wheels and track really clean (and also the contact strips above the trucks and the bearing cups in the trucks) then the LEDs will not flicker.  The contact strips and cups stay clean for long perods but track/wheels need regular cleanings.

Max:I was not privy to your PMs with Al about the resistors, but that is a moot point; See beleo.

Al:  I can't hold myself back any longer. You sure are "Mr. Vague: when asking for help here. SInce you are dabbling with electrical and electronic circuits, it wouldn't hurt to learn some basic terminology like "serial" and "parallel" connections.   Your lengthy description of the circuit you created coudl have been much shorted and clearer if you only used those terms.   All you needed to say to very clearly describe your circuit was:  the 2 resistors and the bulb are all connected in-series.  That short sentence clearly and unambiguously describes what you did.

I'm well-enough versed in electronics, just not the new micro-mini PCB designs of today. And I DID state they were in serial in an earlier post, but somebody said I must be mistaken and mean parallel. You guys complain that sometimes posters are being ornery but sometime you guys are treating posters like 5 year olds.

Ngineer: yes-- clean those passenger wheels with alcohol and scrub them good. Plus a quick wipedown of the track. When that is done, the cars roll even through insulfrog switches without a flicker.

TO CONCLUDE: I have found my answer w/ 1W resistors, plus passable 1/2W combinations, to satisfy the questions about this topic. So another one of my electronic misfortunes threads can end.

Really Al?  You kidding, right?  When it comes to being ornery and complaining you take the cake.  I'm glad that you found a good solution to your problem.
