the line never rang, it came up as could not be completed as dialed

We that's an entirely different situation. I tried calling and I got a recording "the number you have dialed ... is not in service". Thanks for that tidbit - strange that the website is till up 8 years later.  :?

His other site has a 2026 catalog: http://www.panzerschiffe.com/Panzerschiffe-Catalog.pdf

The plot thickens.

Maybe he sold his military portion of the company to someone else?

After all, his primary business was always on the non-model-RR side. He acquired Fine-N-Scale as a side business.  Last time I ordered from him was Sept. 2011 and I seem to recall him telling me that after he sold his existing FNS inventory he was not going to cast any more (or at least trim down the range of N scale items).

Maybe, but the Panzer site lists the same email address. I emailed him yesterday and included links to this thread - there were a few items that I wanted to order so I have skin in this game.

Maybe he's on vacation or something and I'll get a response next week (or not).

Ultimate N Scale makes a oil conversion for the Kato Mike (two versions), but apparently it works for some Bachmann tenders as well.

It actually does fit the B-mann SPECTRUM USRA standard tender, which is what comes on the SPECTRUM 2-8-0.  I have done the conversion twice.  I have since sold the locomotives but it did fit.  As Original Poster correctly indicates, the coal load pops out.  All that you need do is cement the oil bunker in its place.

there's more involved then that, there is also a lip on the rear of the coal bunker that needs to be removed  and the oil bunker needs some sanding.  the front of the casting is not long enough, so a little bit of stryne might be added

I haven't sanded the bunker or the tender to fit yet, just showing the need to extend the bunker...
