However, with the first one, it has the front mounted reefer unit and I don't know what year this started, but I don't believe you can put two cars on an 85' car.

Maybe you could: http://www.model160.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/ttx473393-F85B-Early-TOFC-loaded.jpg

Jeez, just about every release of 40' trailers is tempting me! :scared:

This is going to get me into trouble. When the Milwaukee trailers came out, I was so desperate to make sure that I had them, that I double ordered (and overpaid...), and now I have duplicates of them. The other problem is, the more trailers you get, the more TOFC cars you will ultimately need to go under them.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

70s intermodal wasn't even part of my modeling until Trainworx started making these trailers (Athearn also made some good ones).    Now it's totally included.  I will get at least one of these, maybe the bicentennial since I have a picture of one of those (although it looks like a different trailer).

I'd like to see more of the flat cars arrive.

I tried fitting some of my trailers to an empty Micro Trains flatcar... Didn't quite work.

If I remember correctly, the C&NW had some gaudily painted yellow and green trailers, probably between the 50s and 1968.  I should look towards them.  Unfortunately, I am packing again and not certain just where I'll end up again and how long it will be before I can unpack.

Anybody played with moving the wheel carriages around on the models?  It seems an easy way to break up the monotony caused by long trains of these gorgeous models.

I haven't had any problems.

I haven't on the painted cars but I did change the sample one I got from Pat.

Here's a shot of all the pieces.

The carriage is positionable via pins, but it doesn't go far enough forward in my estimation for the CGW trailers.  Also, I think on all the reefer vans, the cooling unit should be moved more towards the drivers side and not right in the center.

I made these changes to the following shot and will do the same for my 24 (I added three more  :))CGW trailers.

I'd like to see if anyone is interested in new landing gear with wheels.

Sirenwerks:  You may be right about 1968 for the ACI labels, but the GN wasn't putting them on freshly repainted boxcars in August of 68.

From Wikipedia, which agrees with other sources I found:
"Starting in 1968 all railcar owners were required by the AAR to install ACI labels on their cars. This requirement led to full-scale implementation of the ACI system in the early 1970s. By 1975 90% of all railcars were labeled. The read rate was about 80%, which means that after seven years of service 10% of the labels had failed for reasons such as physical damage and dirt accumulation. The dirt accumulation was most evident on flatcars that had low-mounted labels."

The system was actually approved in 1967, so you probably could get by with a labeled trailer in that year.  Note also that the system was never universally applied, which didn't help its functioning any...
