Ah, good project, Jason. I helped S&R Models with their special run of CGW trailers years ago. Those were simply Atlas 40' trailers, and the shadow lining I suggested didn't make the cut. This will be a workable solution, and much closer. There were two versions of lettering, a "skinny" and a "fat". You reference a 15 year old decal set. That sounds older than the C&NWHS sets that Oddballs printed? C&NWHS included both versions of the lettering.
I bought a few of those trailers. Those Atlas vans are pretty rough. I never realized how severe the draft angle was from top to bottom before I got those. I had heard about the shadow line idea. It would have been interesting to see.The decals I'm talking about are the C&NWHS ones. I thought I got those before I moved to AZ in 1999. I could be wrong.I know of a few differences between these two series of vans. That's why I need more photos of the 5042XXs. I don't trust the Color Book farther than i can throw it. It references a 34" herald and that the later series lettering was no longer centered. Neither of which is true from what I can tell. So I've been trying to get as much info as I can for myself.Jason
Jason, Have you tried the Dullcote trick? Spray the sheet with Dullcote before you try to use them, which will keep them from disintegrating long enough for you to get them on the model. Also, I have 6x sets of the CNWHS/Oddballs decals if you need them. I won't ever use them since I changed eras a while back. PM me your address and I'll mail them to you.Pete
Jason,Did you consider adding the top flash panel and are you going to try for the stainless look? At least IMO, those are integral features of those specific trailers.
I'm actually just trying to get something representative of what the Trainworx models might look like to show to the CGW Yahoo Group (and others). I would like to try to do a stainless sometime but I'm not excited about shooting enamels and I don't think the effect really scales to N very well.Jason
.....I have two more sheets that I'm going to try Future Floor Wax first to see if I can get the decals down. If that fails, then yeah, maybe I'll need some extra sets.Jason
Also, what mag does that B&A article come from? Im interested in it.
