Reading boxcar decals

I model Chessie System, as you all know.  But I'm on the lookout for some decals for a 50' boxcar in the large "billboard" style lettering. Like this scheme:

I know Microscale did some in HO (I think it was for a 50' car), but I'm not sure about N scale.  So anyone have some advice on what my options are?

What you really need is a big can of Oxide Red paint, and some Western Maryland decals.  Chessie will only scratch your furniture, and leave behind a litter pan that will cause your visitors to question your hygiene.  Repent now before it's too late.

Don't worry Lee.  I've got several WM projects in the works too.  Only for them I already have the paint and decals!  Here's one I'm sure you'll recognize.



This casting didn't turn out (and the camera makes it look more bent than it is) so I'm going to try casting it in metal once I rebuild the master.

I remember Herald King does the savings bonds version of that paint scheme but something else in my memory tells me the eagle image overlaps the yellow banner. Maybe HK does a plain version too, sans eagle?

If you're working in N scale, there were some roundhouse cars out before the Athearn takeover that were good looking... not sure how accurate they are, but they fill the ticket on my layout...



I like that flat car.  What are you using for decals on that?  Do you have some of the ancient and venerable Northeast Decals sets?  I'd be interested in obtaining a copy or two when you go into production...

Unfortunately, that car isn't accurate for anything.

As for the pulpwood flat, luckily WM caboose decals fit it perfectly, so no worries there.  I'll set aside a few castings for you when I get to that stage.

ESM released an N scale version of the Reading "Buy U.S. Bonds" Herald King HO decals in 1990.  They are long gone, but I'll check to see if there is a stray set laying around.

Microscale does or did make that large READING decals. I think it was combined with other railroads on one decal set. I know I have them somewhere -If you are still interested, let me know and we can take it to the swap forum I don't like to sell decals on "the bay" because they are too low cost to bother with ebay fees - you net about 50 cents -i bet :-\ :-\

How about the Micro-Trains version of a 50' PS1? Is it proto ? ???

The Micro-Scale decal is from an old set and is the wrong color.  The MTL car is the plug door version and some of the fonts are off.

Aaron - I had a couple of sets put away, as I was going to do some non-USSB cars, that I can't find.  But I have the one set that was archived for the company examples.  I don't know if I have your current address, send me a PM with it and I'll put it in the mail.
