 I was thinking the same thing. I am going to use the pilot wheels from the Bachmann 2-6-2 for the lead truck on a Railbus project. They are metal and measure out to .145" (~23" diameter) at the tread. I need 20" but I want pickup so these are the smallest I could come up with. The pilot wheels on the 4-4-0 are plastic and smaller. I need to dig mine out and measure them to see how much smaller. I believe the tender wheels on the 4-4-0 are the same as the pilot wheels on the 2-6-2.

Yeah , I thought of those but I think they may be too big for cart sized things . Gregg 3rdRail suggested those when I was in search for the mag trolleys under the UP DC-2 I bashed . For that they turned out to work very well , though I may have used the shiny tender wheels and had to axle them . Perhaps those pilot wheels are smaller .

Added info on those Bachmann 4-4-0 pilot and trailing truck wheels .

These are like garbage pails with huge flanges , but David , a flange reduction with a spin on the Dremel , and thin up the tread width with a saw and or a Dremel , and add those etched brake wheels as a face you may have hit upon something here . Interesting , thanks , I ordered some .

Where did you get the two tiny motors in your pics?  One or both might be a great match for a project I have for early next year.

The "Motor" on the dog cart is pure illusion (a watch gear glued on a brass tube) for an April Fools joke thread years ago. But it is based on measurements of an actual motor in production - as long as you don't mind paying something like $700 for it or some stupid thing.

The bigger motor on the tie cart is a Radio Shack "Zip-Zaps" first edition motor, that was even too small for them, but you used to be able to get those very inexpensively in four-packs.

I got a bunch of 9V Motorola motors similarly sized for $1.00 each, they do work, but man, as you would imagine, just no torque at all.

My current successes are based on the Solarbotics GM15 motor and gearhead, it works great with a dropping resistor, makes my Climax kits run at 9mph flat out, if possibly sounding like an N scale beehive.

Those are really cool little motors.  I drill the plastic end out and put in a shaft or a universal.  That works.
