Weekend Update 7-12-2009

I made two accomplishments this week.  I got most of the last security plant installed on my layout.  This time, I got brave enough to install the ladders on the signals.  Like most things that I seem to be apprehensive about that I haven't tried, they were really quite simple.



My second accomplishment is also shown here.  I dragged out some of my old ER Models BF-16's (Baldwin RF-16 for the non-Pennsy) and gave them some good thorough running time.  I've never had much luck with these; they always ran too slowly.  After a couple of hours of good solid breaking in, they're running quite nicely!  The lead unit in these photos started out at 19 SMPH at full throttle, the other two at about 27.  By the time I was done, all three were running at 45 SMPH.  No speed records, but very acceptable for heavy-haulin' road freights.



Of course, to say that they sound like a Norelco razor is not terribly flattering to Norelco...

You must know how to get me going...

I found that after I put decoders in mine they quieted a whole bunch.

Sorry about your job...hopefully you're in an area that has some options for you, and you have the resources to decompress a bit.  When I lost my job in the Bay Area in the late 80's I took a little time and got stuff out of my system before thinking about a new job.  Best of luck.

Since my now former employer decided to "can" me after 25 years in management I have retreated to the cottage to contemplate life but did come into town to pay billes etc... of course I ran trains - this is the Kato RDC (CPR) I detailed before leaving.........

Got to work on some more photography this weekend, and with the help of Dave Foxx and his Fuji, I think I might have a cover shot for N Scale.  After the hard work was done, we did some goofing off with his C&O stuff...




This might have happened at Elkins at some point, but probably not.  A first generation Chessie System portrait.  The Geep is Dave's, the B&O FA is mine, and the WM fireball is an ancient and venerable Atlas FA with a Mehano shell that belongs to the WMRHS.  It's in town for another photo shoot, along with this little beastie...



I also got a little more done on my North Jct. Industrial Park project...


Meanwhile, the interwebs at home are gibbled up due to a cable yanking incident... Hopefully that'll be fixed soon...

Thanks for having me down last Saturday and taking the time to stage and shoot my C&O locomotives on your layout.  For those that like those shots you posted, which, as you know, we spent very little time staging and messing with the settings on the camera for the shots that include the C&O equipment, wait until they see your cover shot, where we did expend some effort and took numerous shots over several hours to get a few potential candidates for a cover shot with excellent depth of field and lighting.  Personally, I can't wait for your article to be printed.
