Not much for me this week. My big project was making some room in my basement so I can have other projects... :)



I did get some work done on the bridge module, in terms of making the river "flow" over the dam. Nothing too innovative here--having watched Howard Zane's third Great Model Railroads video, I used his technique of pulling caulk over the edge with a comb. Except I used Weldbond glue instead of caulk, and the end of the ties on some scrap flextrack instead of a comb. :)



It looks pretty good in this shot...



...but I still need to get some texture into the water on the bottom half of the dam, as well as at the foot of the dam.

And I'd better do something about that stupid recessed screwhead in the middle of the dam--the better the rest of the module gets, the more obvious that particular hole becomes. :)

The other side of the layout has nothing as of now. It will someday house ATSF's Glorieta sub, but am focusing on completing this eastern side first.

Cover that screw hole in that great water fall with a rock protrusion , on top of which is a bird looking for a fish .

Sorry about the quality; I'm using my iPhone since our good camera is broken.  I started construction of the yard extension for the N scale Juniata division.  The extension is constructed the same way as the existing layout; a hollow core door topped w/ 2" of Styrofoam with folding/telescoping H-shaped table legs.  The fascia is 1/8" tempered Masonite hardboard painted semi-gloss black.  I'm test-fitting the tracks; don't get too hung up on the arrangement; it's not 100% done yet.  The backside of the mountain will be covered with a removeable 1/8" Masonite backdrop mounted against the old layout with industrial-strength Velcro (for tunnel access).  You'll note that I'm using Atlas code 55 this time instead of the code 80 used on the previous part.

Since my now former employer decided to "can" me after 25 years in management I have retreated to the cottage to contemplate life but did come into town to pay billes etc... of course I ran trains - this is the Kato RDC (CPR) I detailed before leaving.........

That looks like how we used to be able to curb our trash . Now we need to put that metal with the bottles and plastics , the cardboard needs to be broken down and tied with a string , separate from paper which which is also tied or bagged . If I put it out the way you have it now , it wouldn't get picked up .

Got to work on some more photography this weekend, and with the help of Dave Foxx and his Fuji, I think I might have a cover shot for N Scale.  After the hard work was done, we did some goofing off with his C&O stuff...




This might have happened at Elkins at some point, but probably not.  A first generation Chessie System portrait.  The Geep is Dave's, the B&O FA is mine, and the WM fireball is an ancient and venerable Atlas FA with a Mehano shell that belongs to the WMRHS.  It's in town for another photo shoot, along with this little beastie...



I also got a little more done on my North Jct. Industrial Park project...


Meanwhile, the interwebs at home are gibbled up due to a cable yanking incident... Hopefully that'll be fixed soon...

Great work on the yard, Dave...

Otherwise I installed 3 more decoders, picked up 4 Bluford Shops 86 footers. Baltimore Central planners assembled two more buildings and took delivery of C420 #501.

Lee - I definitely see cover shot potential.  Do you know what issue yet?

Zox - that bridge scene is looking great.  Is that an Ntrak module?  If so, is it going to be shown anytime soon?

Nothing for me - I've been on the road for 2+ weeks: Chicago, Chincoteague, and now Italy... I did have a heavenly risotto con porcini and a fine bottle of local vino rosso last night though.   And it's almost dinner time again.   :D

They won't pick it up that way for me, either--at least, not for free. That's a "special collection" you're seeing in that photo. It's costing me $10, plus another $20 because of the freezer.

It's a module, but not NTrak. It's built to the MARRS Smart-N spec: http://marrsweb.org/smrtnstd.html

Our next "major" N-scale setup will be at the Zane show in Timonium in February, and I hope to have the scenery completed by then.
