Atlas Forum site down?

Gawd, conspiracy theories abound, don't they. Then are those that think that something they said triggered a shutdown.

I'm gonna be Mr. Spock here (from Star Trek), and try to use logic. I'm sure those of you who regularly participate on Atlas recall the "molasses in January" problem it was having. I noticed that a good part of the delay seemed to be caused by the Atlas banner ads at the top. They disappeared and things sped up. Well it is Atlas' forum and I'm sure they wanted to resume advertising. Logic would say that they let the forum run w/o banner ads until a "patch" was devised and they have taken it down today to install said patch.

Or maybe they use IE7 and the Trojan got everyone's username and password and it's logged all of us in.  ;D ;D ;D

That's a code-level error. Unlikely that it's due to slowness or server issues; someone is tinkering with the forum code itself. (Old code at that--asp is considered "antique" any more.)

While that's quite true, I imagine they probably don't regard the ROI as worth it.
