That shot is TOO cool.  You can see where they made the cut to drop the nose!!  Mein Gott!  I have a shell...  Oh, boy...  The adrenaline is really pumping now!!

Just as I was getting all misty about Conrail, too!! ;)  Conrail?  What's a Conrail?!?

I remember for a long time CR GP30's including Reading and ex-PC units would work the old yard in Somerville, NJ across from the shopping center where we used to head to for lunch every other day - back in 1978-80 timeframe. I think those were the only Reading units I ever actually saw!

I used to work at RCA in Bridgewater - the CNJ main, which at the time passed by the back of the huge parking lot still connected NJ to Allentown. When the LV was under reconstruction (summer of 1980 or so???) that line was jammed with CR intermodal trains - brand new GP40-2's pulling trailers and containers at 15-20 MPH almost one after the other at times of the day...   

Of course I was still bemoaning the CNJ!

Those RDG 45s are hard core.

You may hate me for this, but take a look at the cab.

I've yet to figure out how to do that in N.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean about the cab...looks easy to do...in this moment...I bought some CR blue today and parts like antennas and even cab signal boxes...now I need to call my doctor...

It's just the windows and number boards pushed forward isn't it?  The rest of the cab seems the same.  You would just need two cabs to bash.

Or am I missing something?

Jason, you're right!
I had to look at it twice now and yes...this would be really hard to build but not impossible for an skilled kitbasher.
My unit will stay in its box until I finished my other projects including two Kato ex-UP GP38-2 which I stripped today and installed some details (plow,antenna,beacon) before painting them for BN or CR (please vote!).

Queation:
Does anybody know where I could get Vol.2 of "Conrail Motive Power Review" by Gordon Lloyd,Jr. & Louis A. Marre?
I bought Vol.1 back in the 90s and never got the follow up.

There never was a "Volume 2" published.  This has been discussed at length on the Conrail Modelers Yahoo Group.  So many guys who model Conrail in all scales would have love to see this book produced, but it hasn't happen.  The next best source would be Withers Conrail Motive Power 1986 to 1991.  You miss all of the Alco and 6-axil U Boats in this volume though.  There are only 2 pages on SD45's too if memory serves me correctly.  Oh well.

It's not as simple as that.  The problem is the thin wall between the plane of the windshields and the cab door.  Also, note that the sheet metal of the sloped part of the roof is cut at an angle creating a little "awning" effect over the door.
This is really a job for etched brass to get the thin profiles you need.  If something could be fabricated that would accept the Kato windshield/number board casting (or better yet, a more to scale Atlas windshield/numberboard) that would be the ticket.
I've seen this bashed in HO, but there aren't the same demanding tolerances you have in N scale.
