Weekend Update 10/26/25

Printed a signal bridge for Hagerstown last night.  Assembled it today and threw some paint on it.  Good enough for a stand in right now.  Some of the cross members and the grated walkway are a little wavy.  Ill need to build a crabbing box on this side for the base.

Timonium show weekend!

After the show some friends came over for a layout visit. I ran my "parlor trick" for them: Stewartstown #10 with the @Jim Starbuck treatment.

Rangust-You can imagine how surprised I was when I saw a lashup of three of those wide cab, four window Canadian units doing industrial switching in El Dorado, AR, crossing the road in front of me - in WATCO paint, units 4010, 4005, 4020.   I'd never seen one before.

A good retirement job for an excellent engine that pulled many miles for CN. I think CN regretted selling off so many of them. They should have removed the turbo and used them in secondary service. Did you know that this class of engines where wired in permanent parallel?

Timonium show weekend!

I heard there were a bunch of great deals to be had, but I behaved myself.

Instead, I got to do my favorite thing at a show: find a new manufacturer!

It's funny, but I had just been looking at their stuff on Etsy last week, then I'm walking along and whoa! "I recognize those!". I talked with the lady and she was awesome. Her husband got into doing it by making miniatures for wargaming and then realized the crossover potential. She said they were at Altoona too. Importantly, I talked with her about the importance of doing their military stuff "in travel configuration".

I could've easily dropped $1000 on their decorated models. They were beautiful. But I'm still digging out of the last year, so I opted for the DIY options.

They were right across the aisle from the BANTRAK layout at Altoona; I talked to them a lot and bought a number of military models (8 Sherman Tanks, 2 Strykers, and 4 jeeps).  I saw them at Timonium, but only had a couple of minutes to look and didn't buy anything this time.

So I am either really late to this week's post, or early to next week. You get to make that decision!

Been collecting some undecorated Rolling Stock to start to letter for my own fictitious line, the skookumchuck Beltline. I've had an adventure in decaling over the last couple weeks. I picked up some decal paper from Hobby lobby, while I was able to print with an inkjet printer, seal it with some decal sealant I had laying around from my model car days, the film with extremely thick, and anytime I try to use microsol or microset it would wrinkle up really badly. Needless to say I was not happy with it. I managed to make it work for a a locomotive, and a caboose, but was really disappointed. I got some recommendations for better decal paper, through bare-metal.com, and to add to the better quality paper, it was rated to be used in a LaserJet printer. Even better the sheets are full 8.5x11, not 5.5x7 like the Hobby Lobby paper. I redid my artwork, added a bunch to fill up the sheet, printed, sealed, and went to work. This decal paper is so much better and I would highly recommend it so far. I'm extremely happy with the results of the one covered Hopper I've got done, I redid the heeralds on the Caboose I got done, and the locomotive in the picture I think I'm going to try to strip off the clear coat, remove the old decals, and replace them with the new. The new decals is so much thinner, and seem to lay over details a lot better. I have three more two Bay covered hoppers, and air slide covered hopper, a wood caboose, and an RS3 left to decal that are yellow. The rest of my Rolling Stock that I have currently is going to have to wait, as they are maroon colored 50 ft box cars. Anything else that is going to be with my railroad will also have to wait as the other as all other Rolling Stock that I'm planning on having is going to be dark in color.
