Last weekend, my family and I traveled to Boone, NC, for a wedding. Our route took us through Damascus, VA, where we caught this old caboose on display. The tracks are long gone as far as I can tell with sections of rail seen throughout the town.

Damascus is on the old N&W Abingdon branch (made famous by O.Winston Link). The right of way there is now part of the Virginia Creeper trail.

One of these days, I will get up there.  It’s not far enough from home for me to have a reasonable excuse not to see it in person.

I should visit EBT as well. When I was a teen, one of the members of my model railroad club (RSME) was Rick Shoup - he was a bit of an EBT fanatic back then (mid 1970s).

100%. I was just trying to explain it to some non train friends and the only phrase I could use was "magical".

A week ago, Ruth and I traveled to the central Adirondacks in search of waterfalls and fall colors.  Found some of each, as well as the Adirondack Scenic Railway train parked at Thendara. The south engine was a C430, former NY&WP 432 now ADIX 432.
