I received my Starrett pin vise yesterday, and all I can say is WOW!  That pin vise is awesome, it will hold my number 80 bits superbly.  Definitely worth the $20 investment.

There is just no replacement for quality tools.  And for things we use often, the difference in cost pays for itself in a short time- better workmanship, fewer errors, fewer broken or damaged bits, blades, bent nails, etc.  Things get done faster.  Whether hammers, pin vises, table saws, CNC machines.....

Given my philosophy on tools, I don't know how it is that I didn't have a Starrett pin vise already.  But now "in the mail" and should be here in a couple days.  Wonder if this will resolve my problem breaking small bits?

I gave up rivet counting when I couldn't see an N scale rivet anymore.

I'm a little late coming to this thread.....
He's my 2 cents.....

The reason a pin vice will not hold #80 bits is because the jaws are deformed for holding bigger bits.

The solution..... no matter WHAT brand you get.... is to NEVER use that vice for anything above about 79.

So I have an old mascot drill.  I wrote on the head-   BIG

I then bought another brand new one and wrote (twice)
TINY

I never put anything larger than 79 or 80 in the tiny.   And it has stayed tight for years.

You clearly haven't tried a Starrett yet.  Drink the koolaid.  It really is that good and doesn't deform like others.

Depends what you want it for.  A #80 drill is .0135 inches in diameter. ( which if I understand the "0 to .055" would need a Starrett "A" size pin vise)

Is there a swivel head attachment that can be used with the smaller Starrett pin vises?  That is one feature I really miss.

I got the "A". Looks much nicer than my ancient "Spain" pin-vise. :D

Tamiya makes a pretty nice swivel one, not easy to find in stores though.
