New MRC/MP moguls

Dave, the MP mogul is a much bigger loco, with larger drivers.... to get up to Victor, small drivers were the norm...
I'm still on the fence about these, the only way I'd use one would be to rebuild the boiler and wonder whether the cast boilers are still made of the same superhard substance Max had so fittingly called "un-penetratium"

Indeed.  I have been sitting on an MP 2-6-0 from the original run years ago, to be converted into an SP&S 2-6-0 someday.

             :|I pulled the trigger and reserved five of these new MP rereleases two 4-4-0's and three 2-6-0's.  There were so many nice road names that we will never see on N steam locos again like ACL , B&M, NS,  and I have a S*** pot of original run locos even undecs with the extra cabs, pilots, smoke boxes, so I went with a C B & Q American, an SP American, and GN, NP and UP 2-6-0's. I'm still thinking about another undec, but even at discounted prices my wallet even though they are on reserve, after purchasing Bachmann cars see several other posts and other items is all tapped out for awhile.     Nate Goodman (Nato).

  Nate, I'm looking for a smokebox with center headlight, ala B&M. Can you help me out?

If you're going to do it, get the NS model; I want to see more NS steam.

Yep, and I managed to convince them to do Norfolk Southern; the first RTR NS steam in any scale.

Iain, did NS have anything like these?  (B ( sorry not well informed about their steam roster like I should be, living in N.C. and having use to railfan the line.)

I think that the perspective in the photo makes the boiler load look even smaller than it really is.

Yes, quite a few.  It's not the easiest kitbash.  For starters, it needs a square firebox.  The domes are arranged differently, the tender's different, etc.  Depends on how close you want to get.

These are all good points. On the other hand, if you're using them to haul the Athearn passenger cars lettered for the Strasburg, the one is about as accurate as the others. The MP/MRC 4-4-0 has very similar overall proportions to a D16sb. I'll happily run them as is, since it's close enough to evoke the right feel. If I get ambitious one day, I might add the belpaire shoulders, as they are the most obvious missing spotting feature.

Yeah, it's a tough call.  I don't have the Athearn Strasburg set, so if I did one it'd be hauling Pennsy equipment.  One option might be to do a set of the Model Power/Lime P70s but unmodified (other than paint and steps) because they're actually right for the 4-4-0 era.

Yeah, not too many people make an accurate NS tender; they were somewhat distinctive.  These are relatively close to some NS moguls, however, and I'm excited to see NS steam being produced.
