Intermountain 12 Panel Box and 60' Flat Kits announced.

Well true to their word, IMR has announced some kits as part of the regular announcements (they announced a hopper last month but I thought it might be a one time thing for that car or something).  This month is the 12 Panel Box Cars and 60' Flat cars.  The 60' Flat Car has never been done as a kit AFAIK.

One thing to notice, the kits are priced at $10.95. 

Both kits are listed without couplers and with plastic wheels (vs the new IM metal wheels).  I have a call into IMR to find out what exactly the kits will have since some car have been upgraded to etched metal running boards and body mount couplers and I don't know if the kits will have the same - especially etched metal parts in a $11 kit.

Unfortunately, these two cars may be the least useful cars to test what's left of the kit market.  I'm really hoping we'll see the 1937 AAR, Modified AAR cars and the 50' cars released.

They offered the undec 5161 covered hopper kits a few months back.  I ordered a handful to paint up in "unpainted metal" for my Trinity plant.  Wish I'd ordered a few more actually.   

I might get a couple of the flats.  Seems like they'd be useful for some MOW or possibly a kitbash for another style of flat maybe.

I like this option and I'll be getting a few of the flats. I ordered some of the hoppers a couple months ago too.

Would be nice to know which ends they are including in the kits?
IM has been producing a slew of different ends for their recent releases.
I'm hoping for the R+3/4 ends that the PRR used on many of their boxcars.

I'm curious if my complaint to IMRC about the door gluing issue had some sway in this decision.  I mentioned the 12 panel box cars specifically, since they're so important to GN modelers.

I really wish they'd do a 40' 2 door and a combo door.

Good question! I'll have to check when I get home. I seem to remember that newer issues have a different end. The 12 panel were definitely issued with both rectangular panel and diagonal panel roof types

I'd be curious see to your findings.  I have 10-12 of the GN and a couple more of the SP&S 12 panel cars and they all had diagonal panel roofs.

I believe the ATSF cars have the rectangle panel roof.

I will double check, but the 60' flat with the machinery tie downs go back to 1959 (I think I'd rather go with 1964 like the Atlas chart say until I can remember why '59 popped in my head) from what I can remember.
