Trix Shay couplers

Hey guys got something I need some help with. I would like to know if anyone here owns a Trix Shay model 25700. I just bought one and of course it has European couplers and that is my problem. I need to change them to to a knuckle coupler but having trouble. The couplers on it now simply screw to the bottom of the train, no gear box or anything else. I can screw a coupler like I need to the engine but the coupler sits much too low. I know how to shim a coupler but I have never raised one when it is already sitting against the bottom of the engine. I would appreciate anyone here that might have a suggestion to offer some advice. Thanks

BLI is selling a version of the same model. What do they use for couplers?

A photo of the coupler mount would help.

I assume they are not mounted similar to any of these Kadee options:
