The irony here is that because of Santa Fe's enormous recognition factor among the masses, model manufacturers have been known to slap a big "Santa Fe" on just about anything, from NYC Hudsons to UP Turbines, because it just sells. I still own an old Trix (dare I say it?) K-4, factory painted Santa Fe I bought for parts thirty years ago....
Even today, I suspect it may be easier to sell a NYC Hudson lettered for Santa Fe than a Santa Fe Northern lettered for NYC or Pennsy...

Good point, Otto! A clever mass manufacturer could produce an N-scale PRR K4 and make money selling scads of them with Santa Fe lettering. K4 problem solved!

I would think a steam engine would be a regional thing. The 3751 is usually a visitor at Fullerton, where BLMA is. So, Fox Valley = Hiawatha, BLMA = Santa Fe Northern, ESM = K4. Problem really solved.

If it sells more loco's, no need to cringe. It doesn't mean you need to buy them, but the more people that do, the more money the manufactures make and the more chances something else new comes out.

N scale was a lot easier when we didn't know so darn much about the prototype and were happy to get what we could and it ran.

I know Tony, you're right, that was the point of my previous post, but I still can't help but cringe to see so much around us dumbed down  maybe I need to chill  yes that's better....

These types of 'conversations' make it so difficult to find real answers here....
It's very apparent there are some incredibly gifted N scalers here...I kick myself in the head every time I visit this forum, but I do so because, here and there, I am privileged  to see some incredible modelling and inspiration...and, from those who are experienced, both in modelling, and in the history of the prototypes we model, some sound advice on technique, and, perhaps, some information of releases and availability....
 a simple question of accuracy, and whether the previous release is a good starting point, 'degenerates' to a hijacked thread on something completely different, and, apparently, a subject which is in continuous debate...
  It would seem to me, if someone wants to speculate on the availability or feasibility of a particular locomotive, piece of rolling stock, structure, etc....shouldn't there be a thread about that particular model, prototype?...and wouldn't be logical to believe that comments pertaining to that particular 'whatever' be posted in that thread, and not posted over a thread that pertains to a completely different subject...it just seems like common courtesy.

Hey, if you guys can twist an arm and get someone to listen, throw the 3400 class into the ring. Beautiful looking 4-6-2 that was around from 1919 to 1950. But it would also do double duty as a New Haven I4 of which there were 50 built as well.
