Weekend Update 1/8/12

Go some HO to show this week.I bought this car and 39 others from a local K-mart when they desided to stop selling trains in January of 1980.This is a Tyco car that aside from paint ,decals ,and #5s ,and Athearn trucks with metal wheels is pretty much just the way I bought it.



Going to walk away from the Z for about a month and see how much I can get done on the home N scale layout/

My contribution from earlier this week:

One project I'm working (ok, technically several projects) is a small collection of  Canadian Pacific coil steel service gondolas.

Here's one variation, converted from old 52'6" mill gons with sides extended to 5'0" interior height.



The critical bit of the project is the covers. I've got the basic shape of the cover finished up. Doesn't look like too much yet without all the ribs that need to go on it yet. Here's the basic core of the cover just sitting in place on the car:



To get an idea of what the cover will look like when finished, I refer you to this prototype photo. Different style of car (I have also scratchbuilt sides for this type of car) but same covers.

Made some progress on the Tehachapi Loop shelf this weekend.  Got the roadbed cut out and more or less set in place, and also got the backdrop boards cut out and ready to mount.  More soon in the Engineering thread.

Nice looking rust pits there. Graffiti looks pretty good too. While I don't really care for that sort of thing on real cars, it looks pretty realistic which is the goal of the model.

Been sort of sick for a day or so, did fool around with some building facades for Baltimore Street in Cumberland.  No pictures, though.  I think I left my camera at work.

Lee, hope you have a speedy recovery.
Sent you a thank you note regarding the inspiration your comment about my mad spider wiring had. 
I spent the past few days organizing and labelling the wiring on my layout.  I still have at least one more day of work to get the power leads to my turntable and round house/engine service area better organized.

I found in my inventory a pad of 3M wire labels; these are printed numbers on an adhesive tape.  Nearly all the turnout power leads are now labelled with these at several places from the controller to the turnout.
Thanks for prodding me.  I feel as if I have started on a New Year's resolution.
