Todd: Love that area of your layout. When I visited at the August open house, you mentioned to me that ops weren't envisioned for a while yet. Any closer? That would be a very interesting area to switch in, especially with the hill off the main bringing cars down.

Nice mixture of colors for those scenes.  Not the typical "light-green, medium-green, dark-green checkerboard" one often sees.

Thanks. I was doing a lot of that light and dark mix and just got lazy and mounted a lot of darker trees.

Attempting to scratchbuild a decent looking bridge support out of balsa wood, with the intention of using it to create a mold to cast the final structures in resin.


Definitely needs some work.  Its hard to capture the complex curves of  prototype concrete structure using soft balsa.


Anyone have any ideas on how to go about making a mold of this thing?

Also painted in some trees on part of the backdrop.

Next time around, I would use basswood, a lot easier to work with because it is harder, but still soft enough to easily carve.

Ummmmmmm more NORAC goodness working on the layout. Just basic aspects right now, still need to punch out the logic for the rest of the indications.

What kind of trees do you use? The depth on the scenery is great!
