Athearn new TOFC good for pre 60 ?

Geez , look at this shot , the rub rails are on the wrong side of the stakes . The tires would knock into the stakes as they rolled . Has anybody seen this setup on the prototype ? Has anybody seen rub rails on both sides of the stakes . Are the rub rails removable , and could it just be put on by an uninformed bloke ?

On page 103 of the GN Equipment Pictorial Book 2 there's a photo of a GN Chinese red flat set up just like the Athearn car pictured, with the posts on the inside and rail on the out. I can't see the interior of the set-up to know if there's a second rub rail on the inside though.

Wow , I could have bet the farm I don't have that there was no prototype for that , even if it might have had inside rub rails as well . More often than not railroads are function before form , and usually form never enters in the construction .

Well, the concept is basically correct for early intermodal, although certainly the CP car pictured in the first post is totally wrong because they never had any similar GSC flats. Similar conversions were done with other flatcars though.

I would like to get some of the rails to model modern CP cars.
