Sadly I can't find a shot of the lead engine, but judging by the fan and radiator, it looks like it could be a 38.  Did D&H have straight 38's that wore the lightning stripe?

7303 (D&H 7317), 7304 (D&H 7315 ) and 7312 (D&H 7325 )are three CP applied D&H schemes...

D&H revived the lightning stripe scheme for a short while after the blue and yellow scheme. Here's two varying examples from that same site...

One of the former Reading 39-2s... built 74.

The 38-2s are indeed difficult to sort out, as it appears that none got Lightning in the 70s. Some in the early 80s, then back again in the 1990s.

The 39-2s seem to have all been painted lightning ... in the 70s (at least for the D&H ordered 7600 series).

Wonder when they will ship the tank cars that were announced 8 months ago and the C420's that were due last month? They already announced a second run of the tank cars and have not delivered the first ones yet.

They could do some more in the Iowa Interstate scheme too.

Atlas will not re run Iowa Interstate again, sales sucked. This is from 2 very reliable sources. To be honest,there are still a ton floating around in local hobby shops in my area (and i live in iowa, go figure) but on a positive note, a member of my club recieved an email from Matt at FVM that he does plan to do the new IAIS heritage scheme on the gevo's... Possibly if there is enough interest, some un numbered units as well for all of us RI fans... because you know, the Rock could have lived on into the 21st century i mean, its only been 28 years!

The 7600-series were built new and financed by the state of New York to help D&H cover its expanded territory, which likely is why they were painted in the lightning striped scheme, just as the MK rebuilds of the RS3s.  The ex-LV and ex-RDG units received the dipped blue in as much because it was simpler to apply as opposed to the lightning striped scheme, but yes, it was revived for a short time (a few of the C420s also received the lightning striped scheme).

GP38-2s that were repainted include 7303, 7307, 7312 and 7322.  One problem with the dipped blue is that the carbodies were not properly prepped and the paint was washing off in less than 5 years.  These units show no sign of ever being repainted in the dipped blue and likely remained in patched LV paint until repainted into lightning striped paint.

CP Rail did do two units in the lightning striped scheme but at least one had the error of having yellow lettering on the hood for a time.  Can't remember which one it was, though.
