When I was stationed in Hawaii , they were looking for volunteer to go to Antarctica with the VX Squadron , They had C-130's with skis mounted . A funny sight to see in Hawaii . The lure was that after the tour you got to have a bunch of leave in Christchurch NZ , where it was reported to be 8 girls for every guy . I stayed with the unfrozen hula girls .

I volunteered for Antarctic duty but never got it.  I was a YN and they wanted a PN.  Considering how much I hate snow now I'm glad I didn't get it.

I was an AMS 2 , and would have re-up-ed if they accepted my offer to stay at NAS Barbers Point . They said , no , and I had to be rotated out , so I said to rotate me home then . I should have stayed on that rock instead of comming home the this one on LI .
