SERB is thinner than hobby knife blades.  About 0.010" vs. 0.020" for #11 hobby knife blade.  That is half as thick. The shape of the blade might also come into play.  It is difficult to guess without knowing the specific usage.

The steel back of a single edged razor blade also makes it stiffer than an Xacto blade, and because you hold them close to the cutting edge (rather than in a handle) they tend to be easier to handle accurately (at least for me). 
They are also MUCH less expensive.  Box of 100 SERBs at the local hardware is $8, a pack of 100 Xacto #11 is over $40.

I like the idea of the razor blade. I have a couple and will give them a try. I think it will definitely be easier to get a straight cut. I have to be right over the exacto to ensure I don't angle it in. Thanks for the replies

When scoring styrene, the thinner blade creates less distortion (raised area) at the edge.

Also, a slightly warped sense of humor is a highly desirable trait for any Railwire member.  Otherwise you will have difficult  time fitting in.

I don't use styrene for my N scale. I have been using balsa sheets at 1/16 and 1/32. I like how it paints up with budget acrylic. Today I went by Balsa USA and purchased a sheet of basswood. It is inexpensive and should work good for my next project.  I don't want to buy windows or doors that are just so. I enjoy creating my own. It is quite relaxing. As for lightening up, sure I laugh at stuff that is funny, neither of the two clever posts in this thread were worthy of laughter IMO. I didn't appreciate a huge picture of a Serbian( I am part Serb ) or some tired retired remark so they got a thumbs down. Soon as I see something that is funny you will know. So, don't get mad stay light, eh? I hope no one is bent cause I ain't doing the "long time lurker first time poster routine.
