Bachmann 0-6-0

Today I happened to be at Hobby Lobby (the only brick-and-mortar store in my area that sells tools for the hobbyist) and they had the Yard Boss train set for sale, which has the 0-6-0 switcher.  Looking closely at the model, it clearly had the latest design of the chassis.
UNFORTUNATELY, they didn’t bother correcting the misalignment of the stack with the cylinders.

So, maybe it’s easier to install DCC in the future than past versions, but other than that, there’s no compelling reason for me to consider an upgrade to this chassis.  (If anything, it looks worse.)

(As an aside, they REALLY cheapen the models they include in these sets… from what I could tell, they use non-operating couplers… not sure if this is true for the rolling stock, but certainly the locomotive.  Also, the details such as the bell and whistle are unpainted black vs. painted on the ones sold à la carte.)

Someday they’ll get it right.  Unfortunately, today just isn’t the day.

Thanks for the info Tyler. Do you know if the new version runs any better than the previous run? I would love to see a modeler's version of the USRA 0-6-0. MEC ran several, and B&M had somewhat similar 0-6-0 models with larger cabs equipped with arched windows and a sloped tender.

This new chassis is a running change that our factory requested due to the previous motor no longer being available from their vendor. While the version in our parts store is trainset spec (non-operating E-Z Mate couplers), we've changed over the separate sale version of both the 0-6-0 and 2-6-2 to this new motor and chassis as well.

We've discussed introducing a new, higher-detail 0-6-0 similar to the DCC Sound one we made in HO scale, but we're not ready to go into development with it just yet. It would live alongside the current 0-6-0 and 2-6-2, which we'll continue to use in trainsets and as a less expensive introductory model.

@track1 - evidently the 0-6-0's being sold from your web store do not have the new chassis. This UP 0-6-0 that I ordered last week looks exactly like the one I purchased in 2015 -
