I'm surprised at how late a lot of things are coming in celebrating 250 years. As I remember even the prototype railroads and modeling companies were painting locomotives and model companies were putting our products well before July 4th, 1976.

You're not wrong. For example, N&W 1776 was unveiled May 1, 1974.

Did I need most of the 250 locomotives? No, not really. Did I pre-order over $7k worth of them, you bet I did. At least they're somewhat spread out in delivery dates.

At least they've got your Christmas Ornaments!  :D

https://www.scaletrains.com/christmas-ornaments/boxed-sets.html

Are these gonna be Rivet Counter ornaments, Hypertypical, or Operator levels ornaments? How much for a sound equipped ornament?   :D :D :D

I guess one off runs aren't as a big a deal as some claim, given that most of these locos don't seem to be part of a run of other road names at the same time.

These are awesome looking and glad they are announced. But...as someone who remembered the bicentennial really well, I'm surprised at how late a lot of things are coming in celebrating 250 years. As I remember even the prototype railroads and modeling companies were painting locomotives and model companies were putting our products well before July 4th, 1976. This time things seem to be coming later. But we'll gladly take it.
Ralph

Seaboard Coast Line U36B No. 1776 was built in June 1971, a full five years before the bicentennial.

Does this comment really desire a down-vote?!?!?  :RUEffinKiddingMe:  Just because someone (who buys Scale Trains models) does not see anything interesting in this announcement, he should be dinged? Come on!  This is not Facebook you trigger-happy people!
Agree.

@C855B  - I upvoted you to offset someone’s downvote.  And an upvote for @peteski for sticking up for you.

Guys:

We’ve had this discussion before.  Don’t let a single downvote bother you.  It’s quite possible that someone merely fat-fingered the down arrow while scrolling.  Unfortunately, it happens.  Now, back to the topic.

:o :o :o :o :o

A buddy of mine who does HO scale stuff was over 11k on his pre-order. I figure this stuff is all one run, never to be done again. I'm not about to sit here and say "buy them for collector value", but if you want them, you better get them this go.

Can I come over and play??  :D

About a week ago I made a list of all the Class 1 250 locos and ranked them according to how much I wanted them. Now I just need to figure out how much I'm willing to spend, without knowing what else will be announced by everybody else. First World problems, quite honestly.

I wasn't that bad. But $1400, and still up in the air IAIS 510. But hopefully the delivery dates do stay spread out. The first round of ES44s were up there too. But with the SD70ACIs announced, that means SD70ACe's are not far around the corner I'm sure. Definitely not going to be a cheap 2027 I'm sure.
Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

People have been badgering ScaleTrains for SD70’s of any stripe. They announce some and the Internet is all “boooooo more GEVOs.” They literally made the announcement people have been clamoring for.

There’s little chance that three r/w/b SD40-2’s will be the entire run. And likely less a chance that one tourist railroad GP30 will be the only road name in that run (though it is beautiful). And I highly doubt 3 “250” SD70’s will be the only road names in the first batch of an all-new model that isn’t even going to close for reservations until next year.

Looking past the 250 schemes, today’s announcements signal a lot of other models coming down the pike.

Someday I’ll have a layout to run stuff on, but for now it’s all just a collection. Getting to be too big of one
