Atlas is doing new trucks on the big Alco centuries.

They state both hi-ad and the Dofasco (MLW) truck. This is very frustrating to me, the big MLW's being central to my locale and era. So why did they wait 20 years to throw Canadian modelers a bone for a model who's sales are in significant way driven by CN and CP's (BCOL too) long lived fleets of the MLW variant? Oh wait, probably to thwart Bowser for bringing theirs to N (Bowser teased it in late 2024). So we'll get a generic shell on a turdish mech to block a road specific, accurate model from entering the market. It's business, but a dick move imo.

True, Bowser asked N scalers almost two years ago and not a peep since, but after waiting since the 00's for Atlas to do the obvious, I think I'll just wait for Bowser to do the whole assed version instead of the usual half-assed from Big A.

And my growing fleet of the Bowser HO MLW's and other equipment means that if Bowser never does them in N it probably won't matter to me anyways.

If they do a C-636 with Hi-Ad trucks I'll buy one, even if I have to paint it for the SP&S myself.

Surprisingly, I've seen photos of them in Helena, MT.  I thought the ex-SP&S Alcos stayed on the ex-SP&S routes afterthe merger.

It says in the Atlas Summer Catalog: “Now featuring improved wheel profile and Micro-Trains 1015 style couplers. Now featuring correct Alco Hi-Ad trucks and MLW Dofasco trucks where appropriate.”

I mean, it's easy when they'll just slap the logo on any old model.

The Lionel stuff I was referring to is in their scale-sized line and “reasonably” accurate.

“Close enough” isn’t limited to Lionel. We do have an N scale mfg continually slapping Canadian paint schemes on Centuries that have the wrong carbodies… and another that’s gone full foobie… among other departures from reality.

The point still stands that Lionel moved with greater volume on 250 paint schemes than any other mfg. If they can do it, why don’t others. The variety, volume and speed to market isn’t matched by any other mfg.

Someone said Dofasco trucks? Wonder how well they would fit under a SD50/60 chassis. Would be able to do a MK5000C/MK50-3s if there was a 3D printed shell out there. I know CMR does a resin print of the cab only.

Based on the CN artwork they are using the same wheelbase as the alco hi add truck for the Dofasco truck. I get it from a product development cost perspective, but it’s very wrong in appearance... The signature look of the Dofasco truck is the short wheelbase. I guess we can't say for sure the artwork will represent the final product but there is a good chance these won't be right. Since there are many more differences then just the Dofasco trucks between the Alco and MLW units anyhow, correct Dofasco trucks alone won't make a proper Canadian scheme unit regardless so probably its a compromise.

I have to believe there are enough of us who want real MLWs that a Bowser-like approach would find a suitable audience.
