So UP's America 250 Locomotive is this thing?

So I noticed 'UP 1776' was running with with 4014.. and thought... thats.... not.... anything special.. and.. They didn't bring 1616?

So I had to look it up..
UP's America 250 locomotive is the standard UP Scheme (Pre CNW merger) with the standard post 9/11 flag.. and a small America 250 logo..
.. Actually.. the silver Trucks.. maybe it's supposed to be the 1976 UP scheme.



But then I saw text about UP4547.......      45 47?... Oh no...

Two ends of the spectrum there. The 1776 is very bland and looks thrown together at the last minute. UP should be embarrassed. The 4547, on the other hand, is an incredible looking scheme. Love that waving flag.

I've heard 4547's flag over the radiators is either vinyl or sheet metal, which means the unit can't notch over idle or risk overheating/melting the graphics. You'd think they would've thought that through...

How interesting that DJT prominently found his way onto the graphics.  Not sure how he directly relates to the origins of this once wonderful country.  Did he design the artwork or paid for the decorations?  I don't recall seeing the contemporary POTUS' name, even on any of the American Freedom Train cars or other Bicentennial theme RR liveries.

Regardless of political affiliations, I'm not a fan of naming things after living people--especially those still in office--as it feels (to me, anyway) un-American. Our elected officials are public servants in the employ of the people, and therefore no more or less important than you or me. I feel this way regardless of whether an "R" or a "D" follows the name.

A little humility back in politics would do wonders for our national psyche right now.

Aren't there living president locomotives?  Regardless, the flag scheme looks great to me, I could care less about the political interpretation.

Agreed... 4547 feels like 'kissing the ring' for a blessing of merger.. .. fine.. whatever..

But doing it with an image the portrays the 250th anniversary celebration....  ..  meanwhile..the 1776 to celebrate America 250 is a standard paint job with a small logo...   

It just feels..... dirty?..

1776 is a zero effort 250th celebration unit, but then UP was the only western road NOT to decorate a locomotive for the bicentennial back in 1976.

4547 goes into the same group as 4141, I guess. I'll not comment on its inclusion in the consist for 4014 coming East for the July 4 celebrations other than to say UP is a big corporation playing corporation games to get a merger approved.

I mean.. 1776 should have the paint scheme to be applied to 4547..

Using one of the Trump Plane schemes for 4547 would be more appropriate....

Agreed .. the practice of naming carriers after presidents needs to stop .. I'd like to see them go back to Saratoga, Oriskany, Midway, Enterprise etc .. and certainly not after a living ex president .. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to naming USS' ships
