So, this whole thing was spam/scam? Does this software not even exist? Were they trying to get us to send payment or just infect our computers with malware? All very odd since the wording of the post seemed specific, coherent and made sense (no, I didn't click on anything).
I think, basically, we don't know for sure. BUT... there were several red flags. The number 1 red flag was the direct link to an .exe file- NOT the way this sort of thing is done- the exe file will run on any Windows computer, and you won't know what it does until it does it. A company rep, or someone promoting this program as a great resource they found, would link to the website, or it's download page- which includes additional options for downloading Apple and Linux versions. Why did the poster neglect all of those folks (given his exe would not run on their systems)?
The software is real enough. Note a couple entries up above from those who have used it. Whether the .exe file link that was at the top of the page would actually download it, or something else entirely, or a software version containing malware... is the open question. I think Kiwi_al up above is on top of this. There is a website, it is also on SourceForge, and probably available elsewhere. But the latest version has been modified by unidentified coders. Add that to the direct .exe link, and there is plenty of reason for caution.
Personally, I recall looking this over several years ago, but I couldn't figure out anything that I would need it for that I couldn't do with GIMP or other software already on my computer. Version 1.51 is currently available from the software library used by my Linux OS, and 'verified' but the Linux powers-that-be.
