Just saw the email. I had no hope of ever seeing the Metra SD70s in N. Thank you Rapido. I'm ordering the three Metra units and a couple of the BN. Hopefully down the road they do the Santa Fe SD75s. That's probably my number one want right now.

Thanks for posting it.  I get Rapido's email newsletters but they are so full of crap I rarely open them.  They need a real summary at the beginning to make me want to proceed further.

Per the video they posted, It sounds like they're still finalizing the details for the N scale version. They did not say that it is conditional like some of the other things so that's a good thing. They did mention though that every HO scale version announced will also be run in N

Kato had the tooling... all they would have had to do is attach a blower motor duct to the engineers side...

I talked with a Rapido rep today about the 70MACs and they he was pretty confident that this type of mainstream offering wouldn't have issues getting to market in '27.   I still wonder about the Colorado Pacific scheme being such a regional road.

I asked if they might have a decorated sample this time next year at the show and he responded "That would be wonderful.".  fwiw

I think Rapido might have figured out that N scale leans heavily towards contemporary railroading. For me, at least as it concerns my staying an N scaler, this is not a good development. But for others it seems a positive development.

Scale Trains is finding that out too.  I was told the the GP30s weren't selling well as a whole.

Which is fascinating given the actual success of the Ttrak format, which other than a few prototype modelers (Bruce's Route 66 set for example) the small modules and the curves at the end of the row tend to limit what modern railroading looks like, and multo locomotive mile and half freights are uncommon in the format.

We live in VERY interesting times.

I think N Scale is along for the ride with this one. With ScaleTrains locking down the modern GEs for the next decade in both scales, I think this is the two "museum" detail heavy-weights laying down their future battlelines of production. I suspect we'll see Rapido roll out the rest of the SD70 family into the future and we'll see where they take it from there. With RTR sound and details, I think they both see themselves above Kato and Athearn (in both scales) and they've both mapped out their futures accordingly.
