I miss the old Atlas N scale board …..

LongTrain was a member way back in the day.  I asked about hobby shops in Phoenix during a business trip, and he graciously invited me to come out and run trains on Sun N Sand.  I think we were up running til 2 AM, and just shooting the s*** the entire time.  Verne Niner may have stopped by too.  I know someone else from the Atlas Board did.  It was great fun, and I was new to N scale, and a great way to learn and put faces to names. 

LongTrain passed away as well.....I think 15 years ago.

Ah yes, LongTrain - I had a number of private N&W discussions with him as (if my memory is correct) he grew up in either Southwest Virginia or the Shenandoah Valley. Also a very nice guy.

I remember UP_Modeler always talking about his BMW or Mercedes or something along those lines. (and yes, Britney)  And he was heavily invested in Micro-Trains collecting...thinking that didn't work out too well for him.

PowerSteamGuy made it past the demise of the Atlas forum...It was 2017 when he passed.  He actually moved to Texas and I visited his layout shortly after he moved here.   We bumped heads on the forum, but he was actually a really nice guy in person, and a very gracious host.    I regret not taking him up on his offer to visit again anytime.  His layout blog is still (mostly?) up...  https://powersteamguy1790snewjjje.blogspot.com

Seems like the last update was almost 10 years ago.  So who's paying for the web hosting charges for this long?  Is it on auto pay and even then the credit card should have expired?

I couldn't do it myself.   The April 1 fun started as a co-op with the "Arizona Outlaws" (John Sing, Verne Niner, and myself, and anyone else that wanted to sign on) and we'd orchestrate a thread weeks in advance, and carefully feed it to maturity.

We had a lot of fun with that.    Santa Fe Trainmasters.     The powered dog speeder (I still have that one).  Modeling N scale mice.   My own personal favorite was the magnetic link and pin uncoupling concept.

"Speck" the mouse is still on the porch today with N Scale Norm and Sue in Flagstaff on my layout.   I really miss Verne.   I met him through the Atlas Forum, and got to visit him at his home in Glendale, but by that time he'd gone On30.   But I still have several of his models, and all of his telephone poles, when he sold out.   John has been to my house, too.

I got to meet Cory and Paul from Atlas from the forums as well, they invited me to be a regular poster with my 'improvements', not sure if that held up after my constant ranting about lousy tractive effort.

Now with AI, virtually any level of BS is possible, and a lot less fun.

Oh, and Ron (U18) got me started on the Kato critter chassis with his forum postings, which turned into a home business with the Climax A models, celebrating 20 years of selling those now.   Hiroshi Kato was delivered one personally.   Chris333 got me going on resin casting and has continued to astound me with his RP printing skills on our last joint project on the Porter 0-6-4.   The Atlas forum, and this one, has been rather life changing, really.

Yeah, Verne had a whole series going with Norm, and Sue.   Favorite episode was sucking him up in the vacuum cleaner.    I was so surprised when he sent me the whole family 'in retirement' and they still have an honored place on the layout.

The reason I started this thread is because it was April Fools Day yesterday.    And when I think of that day, my mind goes back to Randy's thread on the old Atlas board.  Which was so well done.
Because at first, people did not realize this was a hoax.   At least at first, people were astounded at Randy's speeder and wanted to know how he did it.

Usually, hoaxes are kind of sarcastic and over the top obvious.   But this one was great!

It was one of the great threads in my memory.
