I've been working on my N scale PRR stuff a lot lately, but I did do a little side quest on the HOn3 RGS. The space between the spur for the Rico-Argentine Pro Patria Mill and the mainline always looked off to me. I knew there were other outbuildings and structures around the mill, but didn't think I really had room for anything that wouldn't overcrowd the scene.



But then last month Mike McCarville of McCarville Studios released an HO kit for the generator building for the Pro Patria Mill that sat--you guessed it--in the space between the mill spur and the mine. And--as it turns out--it's a pretty small structure and doesn't overwhelm the scene. I colored it to match the mill.



After placing it on the layout, I think it adds to the scene:

Let me share with you another cut from my N-scale Cisco, Utah diorama: the overall.

I've introduced every structure along the US 50 within Cisco Townsite from east to west. My diorama measures about 12 feet long and 3 feet wide, and is divided into four sections. However, the space is limited to two of the four, considering the wrap-around tracks. Thus, the length of a train is limited to about 40 fifty-footers.

Next time, I'll introduce the freight equipment I kitbashed and painted, which appeared in the previous pics/movies.

It is wonderful that you are now also providing details about your diorama and photo setup here in the Weekend Update threads, but wouldn't it make more sense (since now you are starting to provide detailed technical info) to start your own separate thread about Cisco modeling?  That would make it  much easier to look at your entire body of work, rather than having to jump between different Weekend Update threads to just see bits and pieces of your accomplishments. I would like to see all of your work on the Cisco diorama in a single thread. The Weekend Updates seems too fragmented to show all of your beautiful modeling. You could still post updates on your progress in the Weekend Updates, but could also include a link to your own thread which would have more details.  Some members here (like Sumner) already do this.

I think the best place for a thread describing details and of your diorama/layout would be the Layout Engineering Reports (since that is what you would be doing).  Threads in that section  feature not just construction, but other photos and info about the layout described in the threads.

Working a little bit on my HO scale Indianapolis Traction Terminal. How long I am working on it? 10 years to date, exactly. In fact, I never really thought to built it. But on March 8, 2016, I made a trial on a laser cutter in a Berlin Fab Lab, and then there was no way back.
There were times when I progressed slowly, and there were loooong times when there was no progress at all. Now (2nd last photo) it's coming together, and I will expose it first time to the public in Munich (Germany) Mid-June. I am not always so persistent.

On the road again this week so not a lot happing this weekend. Managed to get a few things done while home though.

I’ve been very happy with how the electronics and sound worked in Potomac 1403, so I printed a new tender frame and speaker baffle to overhaul 1409. I fixed a few other things I found while I was at it, and converted both to N Possible couplers Amazingly they allow for double heading despite the ridiculous swing/overhang of the pilots while running on my TTrak modules!

That is a lovely T-Trak table you have.  I like that is doubles as a pool table.

This one also got a wash of Vallejo Wash FX for Dark vehicles but most was removed with a brush and Q-tip before fully drying, leaving very little behind.

The "little" dark wash left behind is exactly where it should be: in the joints along the door edges, clinging to the very bottom of the corrugations  in the door, and other nooks and crannies where dirt collects and very rarely ever gets washed off by rain. Excellent. I will try this technique.

Made some slight mods to the two prints to thicken the grab irons up some and a couple other things and got some good prints.

There are two locations on each side of the plow to glue bracing rods back from the front sides of the plow back to the rear of the blade housing and to the frame.



A short overview of the U.P. rotary snow plow at this point..................

Union Pacific used a tender from a 2-8-8-2 they had removed from service in 1949 ( UP #3672) for the updated 03005 rotary snow plow (later numbered 0074 then 900074 -- removed from service in 1969). The 2-8-8-2 had come from the Norfolk & Western Railway.

The plow had been converted from coal fired to oil fired around 1950 and the tender was also converted by adding a tank for the oil. I haven't been able to find any accurate drawings for the tender so have designed off of pictures of the tender used on U.P.'s 3672 2-8-8-2. This was the tender used behind the plow and there are a number of models of the 2-8-8-2 that could be bought but can't find the tender alone for sale so embarked on doing this design.



Close to doing the first print. Most likely some things will need to be changed from what you see above at that point.

Thank you for the detailed advice about starting a Cisco thread. Unfortunately, I’ve already run out of materials such as photos, and this week’s overall post is meant to be something of a conclusion.

There also aren’t any new or original techniques to share regarding the structure/diorama. I did take several photos during the process, and I also have some historical materials about the prototype.

Would it make sense to refine or add those materials and explanations in a separate thread? And would the history of the prototype fit within this “forum for modelers”?

Hi Hiroshi-san,
Yes, this is "forum for modelers" and building accurate models also includes doing a lot of research, and often developing/learning new modeling techniques.  Your posts in the Weekend Update threads included that type of information.  Your latest post showing your photo setup was very informative. This type of information is very helpful to other modelers by demonstrating what is needed to take such beautiful photos/videos.

As I see it, even if you just compiled (into a single thread) all that info/photos/videos from your Weekend Update posts it would be worth your effort. If you still have some additional information about your modeling techniques and prototype research, adding that info would make it even better.   So yes, I would like to see you create a new thread with all that information to be easily viewed all together.
