It's been three weeks since this thread began. I had hopes Atlas would have responded sooner to this. Just an acknowledgement and a solution.

If it is an ESU decoder then I believe it is LokPilot V4 54650 (I don't think there is version 5). Was that factory installed?  I don't recall Atlas selling locos with just LokPilot.
 
If that's the case then all the offending capacitors are not populated on the board, so yes, the shell will be properly seated on the chassis.

No not factory installed, I order engines dcc-ready as I don't particularly care for sound, especially in N.

Hey, Dupesy, I get it. I was saying the same six months ago.

Two things changed my mind: the newer Atlas speakers with the ESU Nano sound so much better; and that ESU Nano decoders let me dial up the bass and dial down the treble.

The tone control feature is part of the recent firmware update for the LokSound 5 decoders. Any LokSound 5 decoder (not just nano) will acquire that feature once its firmware is updated (need LokProgrammer for that).

It's more that I work with the real thing all day, and it just doesn't sound quite right.  And I'd rather just listen to music instead of a bunch of prime movers thumping away

I get it. I've been away from all that for 18 months now, so I suppose I'm missing it.

I just mentioned that the tone control is not limited to the LokSound nano decoder (what signalmaintainer's message seemed to imply), but it is available in all LokSound 5 decoders through a firmware update.  I was not attempting to sway you to get into sound decoders. 

Some like in-model sound from a small speaker, others full-spectrum loud sound from under-the-layout speakers, and others prefer just hearing the natural mechanical sounds emanating from the model. Whatever works for  you.

No such implication intended at all. The V5 E24 Nano is the only ESU decoder I'm familiar with. I couldn't speak knowledgably about tone control with any others.

That's exactly why I mentioned that this feature is in the new firmware updste and can be applied to any flavor LokSound 5 decoder. That way others will know this.  That is a handy thing about decoders which have user-updatable firmware: New features can be introduced with a free update.

Might have just tipped the scales in acquiring a programmer.

I had preordered these, and what a waste of $380. Even the regular DC board installed will not let the shell sit all the way down. These revised frames sit a bit too high compared to the older Non sound frames.

Also, just an FYI, the SD26's use the same frame as these SD35's and the shells will not sit fully down on them with the Loksound board installed. So the upcomming run of Atlas SD26's will most likely suffer from this same major problem.

The issues I've had with the SD45's and now the SD35's, I'm done with any new Atlas loco. I'll take the older one's and retrofit in the sound.

We're still waiting to hear something official from Atlas about this fiasco. Just an acknowledgement and a solution would be fine, IMO. It's not as if this problem will correct itself.

So I noticed on the newer run GP38 and 38-2 that I have (both with factory sound) that the cab end of the shell does not fully seat. This is Conrail 8205 and FURX 5525. I always thought they looked higher in the front but thought maybe it was an optical illusion.
Anyone else have this issue?
