They share some lifelike (Hobbycraft Canada?) Tooling.

Not sure how much is new tooling but the cab was corrected among other things.

Can't wait for the more popular phases! Including hopefully the Canadian version they tooled in HO.

I believe the best you can hope for is Canadian paint. Atlas isn't exactly big on prototype fidelity, and if CP 4200 is any indication, hoping Rapido will do an N scale C424 is the more likely, yet very remote, chance for an accurate MLW C424. While 4200 was built (as 8300) with the overhanging radiator and cab-mounted headlights, both were modified sometime before it wore the scheme Atlas is doing to match the rest of the fleet (photos indicate it was done by 1970).

They've indicated more phases to come and have made the canadian version in HO
Not saying that's a confirmation, but they did do the GP40w so 🤷
Of course they could go the c630 route but both options seem possible.

And in the earlier thread I belive I posted a photo from 1980 in the 8 inch stripe scheme with the original radiator intact.
Absolutely the headlight would be moved at this point along with some carbody mods. But the rear end was changed 1980-83

They appear to be equipped with Micro-Trains couplers or clones thereof.

It’s unfortunate but Atlas has been unable to match the fidelity of ScaleTrains or Rapido in N. In some cases, BLI tops them. The Centuries in the Facebook post look like state of the art 20 years ago. And handrails are such a make or break issue. Atlas paints them properly, which I appreciate (Kato and BLI need to step up for the price point they are at). The better Bachmann N scale locomotives would be pretty good looking with closer-to-scale handrails.

The prices keep going up, but I don’t see much advancement from Atlas. But it’s not all
About me. If it sells for them, great! I hope it does, as that’s good for the hobby. I am not the audience for this level of model.

Well, if they do, and I really hope they do, decide to do a Canadian C or M-630, I would really appreciate a proper set of Dofasco trucks.  The current offerings of after market ones are atrocious.

I like ALCOs and roster Atlas C628s and C630s.

I would have been interested in these but, as others have pointed out, the handrails are real throwbacks for all-new tooling.

They also look to have some serious gaps between the wheels/trucks and the body. I have addressed this with plastic channel stock on other engines but my interest in doing it more has evaporated.

I hope they sell well because a healthy Atlas benefits us all.

Doesn't Atlas make their handrails now out of a more flexable translucent plastic then paint them? I could be wrong about that, but if it's so then yellow seems to cover thicker than some other colors. Where the handrails are painted black, they don't look as thick to my eye.

I'm in for some of these. Yeah the handrails are a bit oversize but these will do until a better model is produced, if ever.
