Rapido announces RDC-2 and RDC-3

Rapido announced this morning the production of the RDC-2 and RDC-3 in N scale.  Looks like the same collection of road/schemes used on the RDC-1.  One addition is New Haven script herald, there may be others.

I have often felt cheated that my favorite prototype never ran these.

More N scale on the way from the company that says N scale doesnt sell.  Hopefully that means sodium chlorate cars

Time to try a different prototype?

Excellent news; I knew that these had been designed at the same time as the RDC-1s and were likely to come quickly given the success of the RDC-1.  I will be ordering an RDC-3 to go with my RDC-1.  They have added the British Columbia Railway two-tone green scheme for this release which is correct for my era, so will have to decide whether to go decorated or undecorated and paint myself.

It would be plausible to do so if Rapido were to run an RDC-1 Budd demonstrator unit like Kato once did.

Includes ‘Canadian Pacific Classic’! I didn’t jump in on the RDC 1’s because they didn’t do the Tuscan scheme and I was sure (and remain so) convinced Rapido will fill in that obvious gap in a later run. The other issue for me is that CP did not run RDC’s in my geographical setting (main line between Field and Golden) - if anyone can find a photo that proves the exception I’d be grateful…

Looks like the units are coming decorated with engine numbers this time, and no decals.

Why no AMTK? Want an RDC-2 to complete a Black Hawk train set. Did they not sell enough AMTK RDC-1s?

Torn on these.  They are within my modeling era.  But, they replaced the last steam-powered mainline passenger train on the B&O, and I want to model THAT!

Still, they seem to be nice models that run well.

Can always model them brand new. Even have a mini scene with the boys checking out these new fangled contraptions 😂
