I wasn't sure with those ends.  I don't think the ends have been tooled in N scale.  If someone knows otherwise, please let me know.

He means no stamps panels on the roof.  It's flat sheet metal.

Someone posted a pic on one of the New Haven Facebook pages of this prototype behind a New Haven GP9 deep in NH territory in the early 1960s, so I want to make one.  They lasted well into Conrail so I can justify having one.

One of the vintage Athearn ex-MDC per-diem 1970s-era boxcar models might have those ends.

The NARC/PWRS PS 5077 boxcar in the PC version is probably the closest N scale model I have seen to this CG car (ignore that 'PC green' though):





You could probably get away with just changing the roof and doors, and raising the brake wheel.  It would be a cool project.

Or maybe the Intermountain PS 5277 boxcar is useful, if you just want the ends:

The PS 5077 looks promising. And there would be no need to raise the brake wheel as a number of the cars in the series did have their brake wheels lowered, so I can model either way based on what ends are available.

The PS 5277 is different, no narrow rib on top.

Just checked the PWRS website. They make a 5077 variation with the end vents, which is exactly what I need.

I think I've seen plans for this (or a very similar Southern car) in RMC a couple of years ago when they did a Southern  PS boxcar series.

Given the amount of work to modify a 5077 shell, I predict it would be more efficient to just 3D print the car instead.

Too many CAD projects in the hopper as it is. This one is relatively easy with a milling machine. Just the plug door needs to be 3D-printed. Although I had to buy two boxcars because PWRS doesn’t offer a variation with 12-post sides and vented ends.

The lower sill profile on the 12-rib body needs modification, and the roof bow ties and the sliding doors and door tracks need to be milled off. The ends need to be removed and replaced with the vented ends. That’s one hobby night of work, less time than creating the digital model.
