Let me kick off with another cut from my N-scale Cisco, Utah diorama.

This is the D&RGW Signal Maintainer's House at Cisco, aka Seely House, named after William J. Hawley Seely(1916 – 2001), who lived here between 1944 and 1958. The structure was built in 1944 and demolished by 1981.

I’ve finally started the “big one”, for me at least. I’ve been collecting, modeling, and building about half a dozen small layouts or modules over the last 45 years or so. I like so many C&O places it was difficult for me to pick one. But I’m not getting any younger so I’ve finally chosen a small part of the long defunct Lexington Subdivision in Boyd, Carter, and Rowan counties in Eastern KY.

The "Old & Weeary" runs down the weedy track, from nowhere to nowhere. Those New York Ontario & Western N scale passenger cars are "foobies", the paint scheme is alright, but they are made from a generic HW coach diagram. For now I can live with it

First crack at printing a large structure.   This is 1/3 of the Jasper station. The full structure will be about 50 cm long.

Initially I was going to go to the opening of the new light rail station but i have been afflicted with the flu, so I decided to start working on an AS-416 truck instead (using Atlas SD9 gears).

More ballasting on the East Norwood layout, slowly progressing.  I never ballasted an Atlas Z scale turnout so I went carefully with the first one; it turned out ok.  I also added the Wesley Ave overpass (3D printed) which still needs to have guardrails added.

Tim Horton @BCR 570 stopped by this morning to work on some coupler conversions.  The main order of business was to convert his new Rapido RDC to N-Possibles:



What a gorgeous model this is!  Of course we had to take it for a spin over the layout:





The unit runs beautifully, sounds great, and the lighting is well done, especially the interior lighting:

After spraying the yard tracks brown last week, I let the paint harden and the residual odors dissipate this week prior to starting on detail painting next week.  I did make further progress on the straight track sections for my handlaid turnout and crossing.  I trimmed the sections to their specific length and mounted them on the wood ties using Pliobond:






After the Pliobond had cured overnight, I freed the track sections from the boards and cleaned them up:






As Gary has shown above, I visited him today to learn his methods for assembling the N-Possible couplers.  I am still in the investigation phase with these, but the new Rapido RDC cars are an obvious candidate as they wont be interacting with other equipment, and the conversion yields a major improvement in appearance.  Under Gary's watchful eye and to the sound of his finches, I assembled two pairs of the couplers with the soon-to-be released loco boxes and short shank draft gear as per Andrew's suggestion:










I have also been planning my project to detail the car for the British Columbia Railway as they appeared in the late 1970s.  I am hoping to add the missing fluting across the doors and on the front end using some fluting from Union Station products, and stack extensions using Ngineering stainless steel tubing.  The parts bag from Rapido includes a nice part for the portable Mars light on the front door and the Sinclair radio antenna, and Miniatures By Eric offered parts for the pathfinder lights on the roof and the K5H horns.  I will also need to add side placards for the road numbers and the BCR dogwood logograms.

We've just returned from a fabulous week in Adelaide, thanks to the generosity of our 8 boys with my 70th birthday present.  They paid for me to cross the ditch to see the Supercars final and of course Laura came too, because I don't know where the passports are!!!

I picked up another Auscision model, this time to feed my Alco addiction.  It's among the last Alco's and is a double ended unit, a CE-615A.  This is also a gorgeous looking model and like the previous one I bought, probably my best performers.  True to prototype, they maybe double-ended, but only have a crew at one end.

They ride on an export version of the DoFaSCo trucks, which as very well detailed, which is hard to see here.


They were originally built for the New South Wales Government Railways in the late 70's early 80's, as the "80-class", but now can be found as switchers in several yards around the country, though there's only a few remaining in service.

Anyone considering something a little different, these things are amazing.
