Being "AI" I just assumed the result would be better than any human on earth could ever do.

Bryan's result at least looks like what is in his photo.

Compare the quality of your photo to what Bryan feed to AI.  AI is only human - not quite a miracle development (yet).   :D

Remember, current AI tools are much more A than I.   It doesn't understand the picture (or anything really)  the same way an actual intelligent being would.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Bryan, what scale are those figurines?  What would they look like in N scale?

The screenshot of the Chitubox build plate has the 1956 woman walking and Janice Rand at N scale. I exported from MeshyAI at 100x N scale to insure smooth detail and watertight STLs. Then I imported into Chitubox and scaled down to 1%.

That’s what I encountered with complex objects. People it seems to handle. The closed tricorder was composed of simple geometric shapes and it was able to replicate that. It is horrible with automobiles, it can’t interpret the fabricated sheet metal properly.

Interestingly, when I posted the Trek photos of Kirk, Spock and Rand for replication, the default captions were Starfleet captain, Starfleet officer and Starfleet officer respectively. So it recognized the clothing characteristics as Star Trek related.

I wonder if besides using the photos of such iconic characters you provided, the AI algorithm searched the Internet for other photos of those characters., Since there are thousands of photos of Star Trek crew online, the AI could also use those photos showing the characters from many different angles, producing the accurate results you got.

With Chris' lo-res photo there are probably much fewer examples of photos of that locomotive, so the AI did the best it could.

It's possible, though there are not many well-lit full-body shots of Rand in the series.  I only know of two angles of that beam-down scene from "Miri" - the behinds the scenes photo I used, and the actual front angle used in the episode.  It got Whitney's body shape and posture spot on.  Of note is that while it could replicate a stand-alone tricorder properly, it interpreted the tricorder that Spock was carrying as a leather handbag.  I had to remove the handbag in Blend and add the stand-alone tricorder.  It also rounded his ears, and I had to put the points in.  I also had to fix the delta insignia on all three figurines.  So even though it got most of the clothing correct, there were still aspects that needed adjustment.  And the faces do not look like the actors who portrayed the characters, although it got the general body features and postures correct. But in N scale, no one will notice that the faces of the figurines do not resemble Shatner, Nimoy or Whitney.

In N scale, the faces on the commercially available figures hardly even look like faces.  So, printing people in the detail you show is really a great improvement.

Now, if I can just figure out how to paint belt loops on N scale pants.

Well, while the material used for these full-color 3D printed N scale figures looks a bit waxy and glazed, they do have faces with some discernable features (under magnification of course).

Has someone tried to upload an image of a building? Did that work quite well?

I did this a while back .. I didn't pursue it further  -- I did buy some credits to experiment, but to download the .stl it appears they want you to buy a 1 year subscription .. which is billed yearly .. $192

You can have a monthly plan with Meshy, it wasn't obvious but possible.

Great for modeling a wax museum in a heat wave.

I've been messing with Meshy for a while. It's really good with humans and organic forms. Not so much on hard surfaces.

I used it to generate some specific folks to recreate this photo (S scale).
