It’s Amtrak time!!!

EMD FP7 – Amtrak



Two road numbers are available:

65317-1 Amtrak EMD FP7 119
65317-2 Amtrak EMD FP7 121

The EMD FP7s feature AZL’s 7mm motor, dual flywheels, prototype specific details, metal stirrups, directional controlled LED lighting, optional front truck with mounted coupler, blackened metal wheels, AutoLatch couplers and they come DCC ready.

ALCO RS3 – Amtrak



Two road numbers are available:

63329-1 Amtrak RS3  131 Phase I
63329-2 Amtrak RS3  136 Phase I

The ALCO RS3s feature AZL’s 7mm motor, dual flywheels, prototype specific details, directional controlled LED lighting, optional front truck with mounted coupler, blackened metal wheels, AutoLatch couplers and they come DCC ready.

EMD SW1500s – Amtrak



Two road numbers are available:

The SW1500s feature numerous prototype specific details, traction tires, blacken metal-wheels, innovative drive train and truck design, directional-controlled LEDs and AZL’s AutoLatchTM couplers.

As a bonus, AZL’s Innovation Lab is including two adapters that allow the SW1500 to be retrofitted with Micro-TriainsTM 905 couplers.

Note: We are advising customers not to attempt to remove the shells of the SW1500s. Doing so may result in damage to the locomotive’s shells.

AZL: So we don't overload peoples wallets...

Today:
AZL: Here's 37 Amtrak items...

I gotta say though... If AZL does thier Black Friday/Cyber Monday BOGO deals, I'm really tempted by some SD40-2s and SD50s to go with my SW1500s..

Yeah, it is an unusual release strategy for them.   At least in my experience.

In fairness, these are basically similar to the CalZephyr set that was released--all at once--alongside other release too I believe.    It's only because they aren't packaged together that it seems a bit more harrowing.

At least the SW1500s are from a way different era, although I realize that for most Amtrak afflicted modelers that won't matter.   The Ortners are tweeners.


The BOGO stuff is not going to be SD40-2's and SD50's I wouldn't imagine.   It is normally stock that has been sitting for a while.   But never say never, if it's a road that fell flat out of the gate, you might see it.

I understand a full passenger set getting released in one month, but they did a the Cal Zephyr cars and a full smooth side set, both in phase 1 paint..

As for the Fs, I never really understood what Amtrak used those for... Santa Fe Fs were on the Texas Chief and sometimes the Southwest Chief.. but the rest?? (Empire Builder? or West coast short distance trains?)

.. And I understood the RS3s to be used primarily east of Chicago.

The SW1500 and ballast cars would pair nicely..

These 14 FP7s saw use across the U.S., but frequently remained on former home turf pulling the successor trains to former Southern Pacific routes, like Amtrak’s Coast Starlight or Sunset Limited. FP7 114’s career at Amtrak would prove to be fairly short, as it was retired by Amtrak in October 1975; some of its sisters would last a few more years before meeting a similar fate.
