Vertical lines on prints

I have been fiddling with wood texture on printed narrow gauge cars.  As the example below shows,  I have noticed lines in the prints that are oriented in the vertical plane.  This example was printed at 55 degrees but I have seen it in other print orientations.  I'm using a Photon Mono 4k, standard resin and standard print settings.  The FEP was replaced months ago with a factory vat and seems to be in good shape.  Am I missing something here?

True .. the 55 degrees may be contributing as well  .. it kind of looks like saw marks - nice detail

I get the same vertical lines with 13. 40, 45 and 55 degrees.  55 degrees gives the smoothest finish for horizontal layer lines.

But is there something wrong with the printer?

Yeah, talk to your N scale shop carpenter, he needs to give those one more pass on the planer.

In my days as a starving artist furniture maker, I used to get deliveries of hardwood that looked like that.

Possibly some pixels starting to go? Had something similar happen to me on my Saturn 2.

It seems like a lot of pixels. If that is the problem.   Is there anyway to test it?

Curious is there any reason why you would need to print at an angle? I tend to to print my tie strips vertically. I say try a non-angled print and try that.

Oh one more check to do. See if you have any z wobble. I have seen that with a non-rigid z axis. It’s why I completely rebuilt the Sonic Mini 4k. If you can’t print a cube on supports and have smooth sides then it’s a wobble.

Love the wood grain!

I get lines similar to that as well (on both my Sonic Mini-8k's), but like Chris said, they tend to go away once you prime the print.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I tried printing without any angle with the same result. 

I'm pleased with the wood grain, it works out very well. This is in O scale so the vertical lines are probably going to be a problem  if I use washes for the wood grain, but I'll give it a try.

 To do the wood grain, I made up a board in Blender and moved  it to Tinkercad to build the structure.  By double siding the board and scaling it for various components, the entire car has wood grain and some edge and end irregularities.

A thin coat of primer PS Gull Gray does seem to eliminate the vertical lines.  The wood grain looks pretty good on both the 55 degree print and flat print.  I have many support issues with the individual boards on the flat print but the inside floor grain not shown here looks much better.

Think the primer works because it is just visual lines and not a real texture. Also all of the resins are a little bit translucent.

Yes I think that is part of it.  I just noticed that the wood grain in the horizontal print is full of layer lines

Yup...  Adding paint seems to cover the lines really well.  Had similar lines in a 1/24th scale Model T hood and a water tank for an Sn2 Forney that I printed last week, especially the top of the hood on the Model T.  Shot a quick coat of Tamiya spray primer (which lays down a VERY thin layer of paint) and the lines disappeared.  I could imagine that would be even more effective if you were using one of the consumer brand rattle cans (like Rustoleum).

Also would be careful trying to chase absolute perfection. Cameras are deceptive especially up close. Would probably only worry if you can see artifacts if they are visible from your usual photography positions as opposed to up close.
