Gotta say I've never seen a covered hopper with extended draft gear.. but MTL has put medium extended couplers on several runs of this car..

And a new body style..

Huh. Yeah, that draft gear is an odd choice.

That said, it IS a beautiful car.

One of the few downsides to having have moved back to early Conrail is the lack of Railgons. Those are BEAUTIFUL looking cars.

I will be swapping in new trucks and body mounted couplers on my hopper.

The RailGon looks outstanding.

Every single release of that bodystyle has come with those trucks. Curious as to the why aswell.

No, there have been exceptions like 099 44 170 GN 172077 (June 2017).

I have that weathered GN hopper, and I've always wondered why Micro-Trains did switch to those not so nice looking extended draft couplers.

I looked on Tovestar and there are several exceptions over the years.. Probably 50/50 normal vs extended..
In Fact, PRR there was a reissue with new # and one had extended, the other has normal..
And 'New' schemes with one type, and the weathered example of the same scheme with the other type.

Any idea regarding this erratic release policy? Do they just use what they have at the factory?

My theory is they screwed up on one release (or used excess stock of the medium extended), then went back to that datasheet from planning future runs..

Just received my pair of Railgons. MTL slapped this one out of the park, these are fantastic cars. Huzzah!
