Just move your layout setting to 1977-79 in Columbus, OH(you know, back when we had passenger service here) and scratch build this beauty out of some Pikestuff kits and/or pieces parts. I don't believe it had even 1 window on it. Come to think of it there's a FreMon module here begging to be modeled. All I need is time and more projects.

However, contrary to the caption, I don't believe the lower right photo is an SDP40F - no steam generator compartment.  It looks much more like an F40.

Whoa, does this thread go down memory lane.  I'm no expert, but at the time, my Dad and I referred to these as SDP40's.  I was standing beside him when he took the photo and if I dug deep enough I could likely find my own negatives.  We shot Tri-X film pushed to 800 ASA processed in Kodak D76 back in those days, as that was the only way to do this sort of night time work and, well, night time was the only way you saw Amtrak in Columbus (or even Crestline) in those days.  Nonetheless, it looks like the number is wrong to be a SDP40 and some of the spotting points don't line up, at least to this photo:

Even back then we referred to the station as the Amshack.  We were all still sore, sore, sore for the loss of Union Station (the last remaining bit of Union Station, the entrance arch, was only saved by a court injunction signed by the Judge at o-dark-thirty in the morning and delivered on site that morning even as the construction equipment was feet away from knocking the arch over) for a future uninspired convention center that was built with a station platform that was never used.  In some respects, Amtrak built this as a stop gap.  I know AJ, the author of the website, was looking for photos of the inside of the station, I am glad he found some to keep this piece of history alive.

Those high school early morning photoshoots directly led to a first career as a US Navy photographer and a skill that allowed me to later work through College.  Many memories.
