Yes I was wondering how that could be done . . .

Tim

Put it in a cradle and run it slowly. Hold a loaded brush against the tire.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can paint white rims on the drivers…. Ideally without removing them?

Craig

Maybe a white Gelly Roll pen ?  I've been using them for fine graffiti work.  Takes some practice to get them to flow right, especially the white ones

George's suggestion is how many people did it, in larger scales, years ago.  I've seen the idea in magazines as far back as the late 40s - as far back as I have magazines.  Should work just as well in N scale, just use a smaller brush.

Or paint what you can get to, run the engine a bit, paint the next section, and so on.

@Jim Costello got busy this week and punched out a couple of ESM Strick 35' Drop Frame Trailers. We're eagerly awaiting more in the series, such as the future M&M & NH 32' Straight Frame versions.

Just waiting on Trainworx wheels, which are scheduled to arrive before year end, to release the 32’ trailer kits. I made the mistake of ordering only the Mack five-spoke wheels the last time instead of all variants.

Giving some daylight to the newly completed Lackawanna passenger train. First is a HW combine, second a "betterment" HW car

This is how I have always done it. Take your time and it usually works pretty well.
Because why not...

This a PRR H22A, sans couplers and wheel sets, a 3D model designed and printed by @Jesse6669. He did a fabulous job with this car, the b end is unreal how clean everything printed. SPF's, you need this car. Hopefully, Jesse could be talked into doing an H25.

Sorry for the orientation of the pics, I don't even know...

Wow, very impressive. This is one of my white whales; genuinely never thought the Erie/EL 1000 series modified heavyweights would ever make their way to N Scale. They were rebuilt in 1948 and were common on Erie trains and post-EL merger Erie side trains. These cars are extremely unique and would really sell an Erie train versus just a train painted for Erie. Would love to know how you made this, and hope that those skills can be translated to the even more iconic modified dining car (Erie 939-946/EL 739-746 series).

Many thanks for the feedback, and the picture references.
Actually, I see now I was wrong. I thought modeling a pre-merger DLW car, when in fact this is a pre-merger Erie car. That can be fixed, I will enhance the design a little, putting the car on the matching trucks, and print one in green or even two tone green. (In gray/marroon this is still a decent Erie-Lackawanna model). More later in a dedicated thread.
