@peteski Looking at the circuit for @delamaize 's circuit below,

How would I convert this circuit without the dimmer (I would just use resistors)?  Could you whip up a circuit diagram?

1: to my flexible two conductor PCB above

2: replacing the reed switch with the hall effect switch you recommended on 9/18/25

That 8-pin Integrated Circuit (IC) is some specialized chip which acts as on-off flip-flop for the LEDs and also offers dimming.

The photos is not detailed enough (and no back side of the board) for me to do "my thing" to figure it out, but it seems that the LEDs are wired in parallel and I suspect that the resistor whose value would control their brightness is possibly on the lower right side of the board. 

Do you want to totally eliminate the on-off reed switch and dimming?  Then add the Hall Effect IC to control the lights?  Why not just keep the reed switch since it is also magnetically activated?

Seems that all you want out of this circuit is the 3 LEDs and a resistor?  I'm probably not understanding correctly what you are looking for.  What specific features of that circuit you want?

Reed switches are 30x more expensive than the hall switch, which is also a much smaller package.  TBH, I really just want to get the darn thing to work. I also bought special, but common batteries to hide under the chassis for easy replacement.

6 for $6 with shipping and there are many other options.  I use a hall effect to position my turntable but also need an Arduino to read it and do something.  I'd think the Hall Effect would take more additional components to make it work.  Maybe what you are seeing there.

Well, that's cool.  Last I looked at Digikey, the price was too high to make the circuit viable.  These change the game.  I assume that the rotational direction along its axis is important.

John, I wonder if you were thinking about latching reed switches which are more expensive than standard momentary SPST reed switchs (which can be had for very little and come in many sizes. But those work like doorbell switches (which is obviously how the one on delemaize's board work.  it is the chip which makes it latchgin on-off function.

I think we should regroup here (this thread is 3 pages long!). What is the current status (instead of going though all those posts)?  Did we find a true latching on-off Hall effect chip which can operate on 3 volts or less?  Or are we still in the initial stages of search for one?

Some of these might help.  I played with them a couple years ago and you don't have to be to precise on the magnet to get them to work.

I didn't go back and read the whole thread but now do remember some of it from the past............if you need latching with the reed switches that does complicate things as @peteski has mentioned.  As he mentioned maybe start this again fresh with what you are trying to do.
