Reed switches are 30x more expensive than the hall switch, which is also a much smaller package.
6 for $6 with shipping and there are many other options. I use a hall effect to position my turntable but also need an Arduino to read it and do something. I'd think the Hall Effect would take more additional components to make it work. Maybe what you are seeing there.Sumner
I assume that the rotational direction along its axis is important.
