Weekend Update 7/20/25

Back to work on the Provincial Museum tank cars in hopes of getting them finished for the Victoria Train Show in September.  I have been experimenting with bending different sizes of wire for the electrical and steam lines to go underneath the cars:

We had ticket to Rod Stewart in lake tahoe, but it was cancelled due to illness,  big bummer

He is 80 years old!  I'll be lucky if I even live that long, much less get on live concert stage and perform a Rock concert!  I suspect that back in his prime years he even suspected he would be doing this gig in his senior years.

I've been away for most of the last two months, so no layout progress or motivation.  To do something, I started to go through my On30 boxes and found some nice 3D prints I bought a few years ago from Kanuck valley models (he sells on Etsy).  This boiler was a quick assembly of three major pieces.  At nearly 5" tall, it seems even large for O scale but prototype images suggest that is not the case.  I painted it with Polyscale and weathered it with Mig Ammo enamels.  I'm pretty happy with the result.

Weathering some of the coil cars I’m bringing to the “T-TRAK at the Tracks” Operating weekend in Cordele next weekend.
  I’m finally starting to learn how to use the AMMO by Mig paints and weathering products I purchased in Jacksonville over 1-1/2 years ago! (Paints, washes, oil streakers, enamel streaking effects, and pigments)
I’m combining them with an assortment of Tamiya Panel Line washes (enamels).

Finished this Genesis SD70 up today. I typically go for much lighter weathering, but this time around, decided to model the peeling paint that many of the NS SD70s suffered from. Prototype photos included, as this looks ridiculously bad without context.

Same here, Pittsburgh, cancelled from the Billy Joel dual concert.

I remember the quote he gave saying that getting the cover on Model Railroader meant more to him than getting the cover of Rolling Stone.

Had the layout open for the NMRA 2025 convention today.  Over 75 visitors from as far away as Australia.  I was able to demonstrate the dumpers and loaders without too much going wrong.   Lots of interest and lots of great comments.

I was one of your visitors. Just fantastic stuff!!

For those of you unfamiliar with NtheBasement's work, he has multiple operating coal loaders and dumpers on his layout.

Ran some trains and did some wiring this weekend. Went overkill on this sub panel. What started as only a spot to mount a toggle switch to throw the crossover here turned into switch route and signal indicators.
